Yan De Hafuri
Monday, April 23rd, 2007I am pretty excited today. Yan De Hafuri has launched its Spring/Summer clothing line.
You may remember the name from a story on here a few months ago (when yin finds yang/inanimate love).
I had designed a sculpture for them to place outside the boutique in Tokyo, and whilst in Japan, was asked to do some designs for the Spring/Summer T-shirts. So I did. Then I went back to Tokyo to submit the drawings. Now they’ve done their part and everything is rarin’ to go. They’ve done what they call a “pearl print” , which makes me all the more curious to see one up close.
For the moment, they are available exclusively at the Yan De Hafuri boutique in Harajuku, Tokyo (www.yandehafuri.com).
Web updates to their site coming soon.
We’ll be trying to make the shirts available through other outlets (namely, my shop on this site) among others, but this may take some time. So unfortunately, unless you just happen to be in the big T.K.O, you may have to get a friend who lives in the big T.K.O to hit the shop and collect one for you.
Here’s the bit of the catalogue i like best…(hee hee)

The design was taken from this original drawing:

I’m glad they went with this particular one for the final design, since it was the most serendipitous, intuitive and subconsciously appropriate. The theme was to have a design connected to the cyclical aspects of nature, hence the earthy, floral shapes. When I was done I looked at it and saw that it was good…all except for the fact that arching shape coming out of the centre-left (no political messages intended) reminded me of a pig; or more exactly, a big fat ugly hog. This disturbed me, since my loose intentions were to show the complexities and the grace that cellular life possesses, to make a shape of pure aesthetic beauty. I stewed for a few minutes and a thought came to me…”The only possible way this is going to work is that if somehow, by pure chance, the Chinese zodiac has somehow come ’round as the year of the hog this year.”
And would you believe it?? It had.
And I knew this would be the one.
here’s the finished shirt hung in the shop:

I’ll have more photos in a few weeks when they get the professional shots done…
over and out,
dave.
